Protection beyond skin deep

The skin barrier can be compared to bricks or cement, with bricks symbolizing cells and cements representing the lipids wrapping the cells in a protective veil. It plays a vital role in preventing moisture loss and blocking out allergens and irritants.

When the skin barrier is damaged, it is more susceptible to irritant contact dermatitis (ICD), a condition that occurs when the skin is repeatedly exposed to irritants which triggers an allergic reaction. Skin works as an effective barrier, the first line of defense between our body and the world, guarding our body from external aggressors and preventing bacteria and viruses from entering.

Embrace oil-based skin care

When the skin barrier is compromised, it becomes vulnerable to inflammation, which could worsen in dry weather. This is why atopic dermatitis, itching and hyperplasia are so common during the winter months when humidity levels drop and air becomes dry.

Cosmetic laser treatments temporarily damage the skin barrier. This is the perfect time to use mild products that contain ceramides to heal your skin back to its healthy state.

A relaxing mood makes a difference

Stress can make your skin problems worse. Research has shown that skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis can be cured by applying oils and lipids.
